Semoga

What It Takes to Be Great

Careers
What It Takes to Be Great
(http://biz.yahoo.com/weekend/great_1.html)
By Geoffrey Colvin

Research now shows that the lack of natural talent is irrelevant to great success. The secret? Painful and demanding practice and hard work

What makes Tiger Woods great? What made Berkshire Hathaway (Charts) Chairman Warren Buffett the world’s premier investor? We think we know: Each was a natural who came into the world with a gift for doing exactly what he ended up doing. As Buffett told Fortune not long ago, he was “wired at birth to allocate capital.” It’s a one-in-a-million thing. You’ve got it – or you don’t.

Well, folks, it’s not so simple. For one thing, you do not possess a natural gift for a certain job, because targeted natural gifts don’t exist. (Sorry, Warren.) You are not a born CEO or investor or chess grandmaster. You will achieve greatness only through an enormous amount of hard work over many years. And not just any hard work, but work of a particular type that’s demanding and painful.

MELBOURNE: The government will select about 7,000 young lecturers and post-graduate students for PhD studies both in Malaysia and overseas, Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed said here.

Also, from next February, government-sponsored students in Australia and New Zealand will get up to 100% increases in their scholarship rates.

Mustapa, who is on a 11-day working visit to Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth, delivered the good news when he addressed large gatherings of Malaysian students in these cities.

PM Says Students Abroad Can Delay Return To Pursue Higher Studies

PM Says Students Abroad Can Delay Return To Pursue Higher Studies

By Mohd Nasir Yusoff

KUTA (Bali), May 12 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said it was all right for Malaysian students, especially those taking medical studies, to extend their stay abroad to pursue higher qualifications so long as they returned to serve their country after that.

He said the government could accept the reasons given by Malaysian student associations and representatives overseas to remain abroad to further their studies and gain working experience.

“The reasons they give are reasonable. We cannot say they are less patriotic,” he said when asked whether Malaysians studying abroad were less patriotic for refusing to return home to work in Malaysia after completing their studies.

The Prime Minister said this in response to a question by a student at a meeting with about 70 Malaysian medical students in Bali Friday.
